The 2010 season saw the reincarnation of the Mighty Hammerhead Sharks Colts Div 2 team not seen in the club waters since 2006 and what a re-introduction it was. The team was basically, whatever was left after the other 3 Colts teams had been selected and what a collection it was, talk about liquorice all sorts we had it all and what a great bunch they were. They were dedicated trainers showing up twice a week to be guided under the expert tutelage of Murph and Bazza in the finer points of rugby but luckily they didn’t take any of the advice on board and proceeded to play some adlib footy. Each player brought something special to the team and a lot of laughs were had by all. The support of the Club I think was second to none and Sat nights would have been a lot less boisterous if this bunch hadn’t adorned Shark Park. We played 13 games and only lost 2(both to the Tigers) which included a titanic struggle in the final against fellow club members the Tigers losing 0-8.We scored 356 points for and had 102 scored against us 53 of those by the Tigers. Heaps of people scored points but Michael Emery was the top points scorer and fellow back Conan Moynihan our top try scorer.
Our players of the year were Willie Mead our tireless open side flanker who never turned in a bad performance and Connor/Conan (managed to call him the wrong name for the whole season) Moynihan our Fullback who was a great attacking weapon for us.
Would like to take this opportunity to thank all the other colts teams ,managers & coaching staff who made our jobs easy through their brilliant organisation and especially to Joel and Barry who were great folk to work with and I know the boy’s appreciated all your input. Lastly I would like to thank the players for putting up with us and hope that you got as much enjoyment out of 2010 that you managed to give us and look forward to all of you returning next year to Dunedin Rugby Club with some mates.
Cheers
Dave Conrad (Piranha)
