The Makos of 2010 a team that did not perform to its full potential.  They started the season

well with a good a first up with win against Kaikorai and followed that up with good wins against Taieri, Uni Blue and the Southern Ravens.  They then came up against the defending champions the Southern Magpies where they come out on top in a tight battle 10-3.  After this they came up against Kaikorai for the second time and did not perform on this day and Kaikorai turned round the earlier result beating the Makos 29 – 5.  After this the Makos again played the Southern Magpies beating them 26-19

The next four games the Makos played, which were before the university holidays, were played against easier teams and they had big wins including a 98-0 win over Green Island and a 70-7 win over Alhambra Union

After the holiday break their first game was their hardest round robin game of the season where they were beaten 23-18 by a very good Bulls side.  The next 3 games coming up to the semi finals where again against lower teams and the Makos won all 3 games convincingly beating Uni Blue 64-14, Pirates 51-12 and Southern Ravens 98-12

The Makos finished 2nd in the round robin and this meant playing the Bulls in the semi final.  The semi final was played in terrible conditions and the game was very close and could have gone either way but unfortunately the Bulls scored a try in the final play to win the game 8-7

The result of the semi final meant that the Makos did not make the final and finished up 3rd in the competition which was a bit of a disappointing result for all who was involved with the team

Highlights/special features/general comments on year’s performance

(Attach comments separately, or note below)

The Makos of 2009 is a team that everyone who was involved with it is very proud.  They started the season slowly and after a couple of wins, they lost to a very spirited Kaikorai team and lost to the Southern Magpies.  They then come up against the Dunedin Bulls and the pressure was on but the Makos came out on top 17-3.  After this they had good wins over lower ranked teams. They then came up against a good University Blue team where a very good first half performance showed exactly what this side was capable of they came out on top of University Blue 29-21.

After these games there were a couple of easy wins including forty to fifty point wins over University Gold and Taieri. After the Uni break there was one game left in the round robin the Makos had a convincing win over Alhambra Union.  After the round robin the Makos qualified 2nd this meant that they played the Southern Ravens in the top six.

In the top six game against Southern Ravens the Makos had a convincing win 34-14 so this meant that they progressed to the semi finals where they played the Dunedin Bulls.  This game was a torrid affair where after 35 minutes the Makos where down 15- nil.  After a very good second half where the Makos showed great team spirit, they went on to win the game 29-15.

After winning the semi finals the Makos came up against a very good Southern Magpies side in the final and the Makos wanted to reverse the result from earlier in the season

The game was very intense where neither team wanted to give an inch. The Makos went ahead 3 nil and held this lead until 10 minutes to go when Southern got a penalty to even the game up 3 all.  Unfortunately Southern scored a try with 4 minutes to go to give them the win 10-3.

This game was the Makos best performance of the year where they showed great heart and passion for team and club and were a credit to themselves and everyone involved with the team

 Makos  2008

The Makos of 2008 was were a great bunch of guys and had excellent results on the field

After going through the regular season unbeaten a sickness ravaged team turned up to play the semi final where after a gallant effort they went down 19-15

Highlights throughout the season included

Two winds over the defending champions University Blue which included the biggest loss that the University side had ever sustained

Beating and keeping scoreless Southern Magpies, the eventual winners

Beating Alhambra Union Gold 112 – 0 with the game only going for 60 minutes

Other highlights included two good wins over a spirited Bulls side and two wins over Southern Ravens who finished forth

A special feature of this side was the friendship and team spirit that this team had; this was shown in many occasions on and off the field.  They were a credit to themselves and all involved
