DUNEDIN JUNIOR RUGBY CLUB REPORT

2009    SEASON

The 2009 season was once again very successful for the junior club. Number wise 156 kids (down slightly from previous season) in 10 teams spread throughout the grades.

We once again received great support from many of the parents who contributed to the smooth running of the junior club whether it is from within the junior committee, coaching or assisting teams in other ways. A special thanks must go to the junior committee for their efforts. We also appreciate the support of the senior club and continue to work closely with them. In playing terms all teams were competitive within their grades with stand out performers being the U9 Blue, U10 Makos and U12 Shamrocks teams.

Individually 16 players made metro teams, 5 went on to make there respective Otago teams and 1 made South Island team –Sio Tomkinson U65kg.

Once again the finale to the season closing day was held on the afternoon of our last playing Saturday with 45 trophies and numerous certificates handed out to very proud players. It was a fantastic way to finish the season with a huge turnout of players, parents & supporters.

A big thank you to everyone who helped us and we look forward to catching up again in 2010. New committee members needed as a lot of this years committee will not be coming back.

 DUNEDIN JUNIOR RUGBY CLUB REPORT

2008 SEASON

The 2008 season was once again a very successful season for the junior club. Number wise 154 kids (up 16% from previous the season) in 10 teams spread throughout the grades.

We once again received great support from many of the parents who contributed to the smooth running of the junior club weather it is from within the junior committee, coaching or assisting teams in other ways. A special thanks must go to the junior committee for there efforts. We also appreciate the support of sponsors that assisted throughout the season particular Steve Mowat Builders who supplied a set of jerseys to the under U13 team & also the Lion Foundation who also supplied jerseys – it should be noted that we have upgraded a lot of our jerseys this season to a slightly different design and they look fantastic. We also appreciate the support of the senior club and continue to work closely with them. The kitchen continues to provide additional funding to us but we are finding that this is a big job taking up a lot of resources for minimal reward and we look to find a solution to make this work better for everyone.

In playing terms all teams were competitive within there grades with stand out performers being the U8 Blue, U10 Hammerheads and U13 Mako teams. The U13 Mako team went on to win there grade beating OBHS in the final at Carisbrook and also won there grade at the Taieri 7 a side competition. This team has players to watch out for in the future and what a fantastic way for this team to finish there playing career with the junior club.

Individually 24 players made metro teams – which is a fantastic representation considering they are only selected from 3 teams , 8 went on to make there respective Otago teams and 2 made South Island teams – Jamie Mowat U48kg & Sio Paulo-Mika U65kg.

Once again the finale to the season closing day was held on the afternoon of our last playing Saturday with 45 trophies and numerous certificates handed out to very proud players by the Dunedin based Otago players. It was a fantastic way to finish the season with a huge turnout of players, parents & supporters…

A big thank you to everyone who helped us and we look forward to catching up with everyone and doing it all again in 2009.
