The club showed once again its strength in Dunedin Metropolitan rugby competition for the 2009 season by sharing the Ainge Charity Shield with the Southern Rugby Football Club.
The History of the Ainge Charity Shield
The Ainge Shield was first contested in 1923, for the first 12 years it was contested in a play-off match between the top two teams in the Dunedin premier competition. In 1938 the competition was changed to the overall finishing position of each club’s top five teams.. One point is allocated for the first place, two for second and three for third. The club with the lowest number of points wins the trophy.
